The Making of Barack Obama: A Glance at the Persuasive Power of Media
Barack Obama, an African-American from a middle-class family, surprisingly won the U.S. presidential election last November 4, 2008 and swore to presidency on January 20, 2009. As the U.S. is one of the racist countries in the world, he surprised the world by becoming the first Black President. Most political critics argued that media agenda setting and Obamaââ¬â¢s social media strategies significantly aided in his campaigns. Aside from traditional media (print and broadcast media), Obama used the Internet media to win the attention and the voting power of most of the U.S. citizens.Although Obama has been into politics and has served the public for almost half of his life, it has been identified that Obamaââ¬â¢s publicity in those popular media contributed a lot for his success in presidential election.During presidential campaign, it has been observed that Obama is in every media. From news in print media such as newspaper and magazine to radio interviews and television shows. Most noticeably, Obama also invaded the Internet with ââ¬Å"www.barackobama.comâ⬠and the YouTube, to name a few. His e-mail advocacy, on-line video, and text messaging strategy also caught the attention of the sensitive audience and consumers. As Monte Lutz put it:Barack Obama won the presidency in a landslide victory (by a margin of nearly 200 electoral votes and 8.5 million popular votes) by converting everyday people into engaged and empowered volunteers, donors and advocates through social networks, e-mail advocacy, text messaging and online video. The campaignââ¬â¢s proclivity to online advocacy is a major reason for his victory. (2)The Persuasive Power of Media and the PoliticiansMass media is known as the most powerful propaganda and persuasive tool. At first, media was only used in business to influence the buying behavior of most consumers. Most newspapers and magazines carry colorful and catchy advertisements, challenging the readers to try the product or service to see the difference.Radio and television commercials also continuously clog the audience while listening or viewing their favorite program, and before they know it, they are already heading their way to the grocery or department store to buy the product that has been advertised. Brand recall was found to be an effect of product and service advertisements. Even if the audience did not pay enough attention, part of their cognitive system is able to recall the name of the product or service being advertised.Seeing the effectiveness of media in influencing the buying behavior of consumers, this trend has been adapted to politics ââ¬â from setting political agenda, creating public policy, advocating political issues, to packaging the political candidate buying for any electoral position.Politicians believe that if the media could influence the buying behavior of the consumers, then it could also influence the voting behavior of the public. The advantage of most politicians lies on the fact that the Internet is now accessible everywhere. Most households nowadays own a computer with Internet access; if not, they can access it at a nearby computer shop.

Disneyland in Hong Kong Essay
1. Explain a personââ¬â¢s attitude towards visiting Disneyland in Hong Kong in terms of the tri-component model. A tri-component attitude model consists of three major components as affect, cognition and conation. It is implying that Disneyland in Hong Kong has the unique attraction towards the customer. The first part of this model refers to cognition that is knowledge and perception that are acquired by a combination of the attitude object and related information from different sources. With reference to visiting Disneyland in Hong Kong it is a great place to visit and have a fun with the kids, where people are able to rest from common daily activities. The cognitive component towards Disneyland is what people experienced by visiting this place and what information they got from various sources (friends, ads). Affective component considers a personââ¬â¢s feelings and emotional response to an attitude object. It is mostly learnt during our daily live. This is the way as we fee l. We may love the place as Disneyland. It gives joy, happiness and join the family. It could have a good emotion or feeling about it. Conation, the final component concerns how the consumer will behave with regard to attitude object. People will go and visit Disneyland in Hong Kong and spend time with the family there. 2. Explain how the product manager of a breakfast cereal might change consumer attitudes toward the companyââ¬â¢s brand by: a. changing beliefs about the brand, b. changing beliefs about competing brands, c. changing the relative evaluation of attitudes, d. adding an attribute. The product manager might change consumer attitudes towards the companyââ¬â¢s brand by different ways. It could be done by emphasizing the attributes the brand . a) Product manager might change consumer attitude toward the brand by changing beliefs about the brand. It mostly appeals from advertisement, so production manager should try to make customers willing to buy this product by successful ad with a ââ¬Ëcatchyââ¬â¢ affect, having a bit of fear and humour could be helpful. The way in which company can change beliefs about brand is putting less emphasis on product strength in its advertising and more emphasis on others value which cereal has. b) Product manager can change consumer attitude toward the brand by using a broad statement (forà example that only cereal with vitamins and dried fruit or corn are helpful) and or claim. It will allow to set the brand higher than competitors. c) People change their attitudes, so companies should be aware of it. They should go forward with changing environmental. As the current life style attempts to look for healthy food, it could be good crossing over from the existing to the new ones with dried fruit and some corns. d) As a production manager I will add such attributes as vitamins to breakfast cereal, making the product healthier. By adding this new formula it will put the brand higher than the others as the tendency is to buy healthy products and will change the customersââ¬â¢ attitude toward the brand. 3. What sources influenced your attitudes about studying buyer behaviour before classes started? Has your initial attitude changed since the unit started? If so, how? Social media and discussion with my colleagues had influenced my attitudes about studying buyer behaviour before my classes started. I found out that it could be very interesting to get know how consumer behaves in reply to different ads, promotions or tricks used by the producers. My initial attitudes were positive and motivation were on the highest level and so far nothing has changed. I still believe that studying buyer behaviour is interesting and can bring much knowledge that people donââ¬â¢t recognize in daily life during the shopping. Whatââ¬â¢s more I have a feeling that I am more experienced and have better view and understanding on different aspects and finally I hope I can still learn more and take as much as possible of the classes. 4. Should the marketer of a popular computer graphics program prefer consumers to make internal or external attributions about the success that people have using the program? Explain your answer. The marketer objective is to get consumers to try the product and then to evaluate it, so in direct marketing programs to target small consumer niches, the marketer should attribute internal and external. But external should be more major, but internal is not less important though. To sell as many computer graphics program as possible , the marketer has to tell people how good their product is and change their attitude to make them think it is the best graphics program. The consumers should know what benefits they will get by buying it, because consumer benefit perception is more than anything else. In this case also consumer lifestyle can change attitudes, so as a result they might change it to be attractive for customers. Internal are also important toà still develop the brand and make t he program the best on the market. 5. Find an ad for a free service trial (e.g. carwash, free brake check or a free software trial). What attributions would consumers make about the advertiser? What self-attributions would a consumer make if he or she accepted the trial offer? This offer make consumer interested because no cost needed to trial. So as a result customer is attracted and can make a judgment if it is worth of buying or not. No obligation with complimentary 3 Day Chair Assessment Service with selected chair/s and complimentary phone support during the trial. It will allow to check the product. 6. Find examples of advertising that uses fear and humour and discuss why you think they are effective or not effective. The first advertisement showing how tires of Yokohama keep the road uses humour. In my opinion it is very useful because attracts more customers, so the audience is increased and it is more effective. Easier to remember. The other advertisement concerns Lazer company. Wearing the helmet protected head. It uses fear and again is very effective. It stress the negative consequences. The sight of a man, wholly in plaster is not nice. In this way the must of wearing helmet is achieved.

Eczema Essay
The city grew very fast, and over the next ten years the population of West Tennessee expanded from 2500 to 100,000. The majority of families at the time took to farming, and with the help of the fertile land, Memphis soon became the center for growing and trading cotton in the Southeast. Indeed, cotton became king in Memphis, bringing in black men and women to work forced labor on plantations. According to the census of 1820, 20% of the populations of Memphis were slaves, and that number is said to have risen throughout the 19th century. Racial tension in Memphis began with its first and second mayor. Marcus B. Winchester was the irst mayor of Memphis and is said to have committed political suicide when he married a woman who was a quarter black. The second mayor of Memphis, Isaac Rawlings, had a common-law marriage with black woman, having multiple children with her. These encounters were socially unacceptable and looked down upon by white plantation owners, even though the majority of whites in Memphis at the time favored the gradual emancipation of slaves. As the civil war approached, the black population grew as more black slaves were brought to Memphis to work the cotton fields. During the Civil War, Memphis sided with the Confederates, but it was uickly captured by the Union who strategically wanted the town as the sight of a naval yard. The Union also made Memphis a freedmanââ¬â¢s colony, and many neighboring black slaves came to Memphis once they were emancipated to partake in education and paid labor. Memphis fell so easily to the Union that most of its infrastructure remained in place. For a brief moment, Memphis became a city of opportunity to black Americans and a place where black communities thrived. Yet as white Memphians saw themselves competing with former slaves, tensions ran high on many of their newly arrived black neighbors in a riot that left forty-six dead, nearly wice that many injured, five women raped, approximately 100 blacks robbed, and ninety-one homes, four churches, and all twelve black schools destroyed. ââ¬Å"[l] The riots did not stop until martial law was declared and troops from Nashville arrived in Memphis to force peace. For a good many years, the black community suffered and struggled to regain prominence, most of them being too poor to move away for new opportunities. With all the schools destroyed, the educational opportunities vanished and the ability of black to become literate and contribute to society became almost impossible. Yet this would not be the only disaster in Memphis. In the 1870s, a series of yellow fever epidemics plagued the city. In 1878, the worst of the yellow fever epidemics hit, and 25,000 people fled. 17,000 contracted the fever and over 5,000 died in the summer of 1878. Of the population that would remain in Memphis, 70% of those would be blacks who were too poor flee. The city of Memphis, which was already in debt, lost much of its tax base and went bankrupt. At the end of the 1800s and the early 1900s, Memphis would turn around again economically, yet many of the areas social problems would remain. Memphis fared reasonably well in addressing the problems of its white community, but the citys black citizens were shunted aside, their civil rights and their human dignity subordinated to a cult of white supremacy. ââ¬Å"[2] Around this time, railroads connected Memphis to the Atlantic Ocean, allowing it to become one of the largest manufacturers and shippers of hardwood in the United States.
Blackmores Company
The company has many options in its bid to enter into China. The company has the option of using the resource-based view of strategy. This strategy has a coherence and integrative role that places it at a better position than other mechanisms of strategic decision making. This is in view of the fact that companies are not restrained only by imagination. They are limited by their own capabilities, by competition, by technology, and by the demands of their customers. The strategy of many businesses is usually concerned with the match between the internal capabilities of the company and its external environment (Peteraf 1993).The opportunity for the company to sustain competitive advantage in Shanghai will be made possible by its strengths and determined by its capabilities. The companywill use its distinctive capabilities as these are those which cannot be copied by competitors, or can only be replicated with great difficulty. This is even after these competitors realise the benefits w hich they yield for the originating company (Montgomery 1995). The distinctive capabilities that the company can use are varied.Government licences, statutory monopolies, or effective copyrights and patents are the company's distinctive capabilities that it will focus on. However, in light of the competition, it can use equally powerful idiosyncratic characteristics that it has built built in competitive markets. These include patterns of customer or supplier relationships, strong brands, and skills, routines and knowledge which are embedded in the company's teams (Montgomery 1995). The strength of the brand will be particularly be taken into consideration as this will strongly determine whether the products are accepted by the targeted clients or not.The issues of the diverse cultures of the Chinese people will be taken into consideration and it will also be ensured that the products are also branded in Chinese in addition to the English language (Montgomery 1995). Skills of employ ees will also be an important factor in entering the Chinese market. The company will recruit a considerable number of locals beforehand who are specialized on various levels from manufacturing to marketing. This will help it gain entry easily into the market and also penetrate the market faster. In this way, locals will not feel alienated to the company and its products (Shelby 2002). The company will identify its distinctive capabilities and then will surround these with a collection of reproducible capabilities, or complementary assets. This will enable the company to sell its distinctive capabilities in the China market in which it will operate (Day, and Montgomery 1999). The company will use its resources such as capital, equipment, the skills of individual employees, finances, patents and individual managers.Competitive advantage may not be achieved from individual resources. It is achieved through the synergistic integration and combination of sets of resources (Shelby, Morgan 2004). The company will also integrate the industry based strategy in the enty to the China market. The fundamental imperative of using the industry-based strategy will be to achieve competitive advantage, and therefore, superior financial performance. The company has been making good profits and this should serve as leverage as this indicates customer satisfaction with its products. The company will choose will have the option of modifying its structure or selecting one of the three generic strategies. It will also manage the activities of its value chain (Shelby 2002). In following the results in recent research in emerging economies which China is part of argues that an institution-based starategy will also be used by the company. This will be in line with view of international business strategy. The instituiton based strategy is positioned as one leg that helps sustain what is known as the ââ¬Å"strategy tripodâ⬠. The the other two legs consisting of the resource and indus try based views (Peng, 2002).The company will concentrate on two areas of substantive importance when venturin into the Shnghai market. It will consider antidumping as an entry barrier. The company will ensure that its products, vitamin and mineral supplements are of quality and are not seen by the target China market as dumped products. this will aslo take care of the subsequent rejection of the company's products by consumers. It will look into the options of competing in and out of China as Shanhai being a big city can serve as a focal point for the company to market and sell its vitamin products (Peng, 2002).Using the institution based strategy , the company will also rely on grouping together of companies with similar interests, that is, those manufacturing and selling vitamin products. The company will will identify companoies whose work it is interested in and see if they can make a merger deal or a joint marketing deal. This could help the company in establishing itself in C hina by corporating with companies that already have cut a niche in the Chinese market. However, this is subject to the conditions of the market. The company intends to enter solo in the Chinese market. It will only consider the possibility of group marketing and mergers if the market is tough. This is not something that is anticipated as the company intends to market its products aggresively using experience form other country markets it has ventured into (Barney, 1997). A cellular network
A cellular network A cellular network is a radio network made of number of radio cells, each severed by fixed positioned based station. These cells stations cover several different areas and provide large radio coverage. In order for this to happen a variable number of portable transceivers can be used in any cell and moved through one cell during transmission. The use of multiple cells means that if the distributed transceivers are mobile and moving from one point to another point they should change also from cell to cell. This mechanism could be different according to the type of network and change of circumstances. In this case clear coordination between base station and mobile station is must in order to avoid communication interruption. The most common example of cellular Network is a cell or mobile phone, which is a portable telephone that could be dialled or receives calls through base station or transmitting tower. Radio waves transfer signal to and from mobile phone. The coverage area of serv ice provider sometime is split into small cells in order to prevent signal losses and also a large number of active phones in the area. The range of signals could be different in cities and rural areas. All base stations are connected to mobile phone switches centre, which connect to a public telephone network or to another mobile company switch. As the mobile consumer moves from one cell area to another cell, the switch automatically commands the handset and a cell site with a stronger signal (reported by each handset) to switch to a new radio channel (frequency). When the handset responds through the new cell site, the exchange switches the connection to the new cell site. Modern cell phones networks use cell as radio frequencies are limited, shared resource, base stations and handsets change frequency and use low power transmitters in order that limited number of radio frequency can be used at the same time by many users with less interferences. To distinguish signals from a vari eties of different transmitters, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) and code division multiple access (CDMA) has been developed. Advantage of cellular Network over other alternative solutions is: Increase capacity. Power usage reduced. Huge coverage area. Interference from other signals reduced. Reference paper 10 The evolution of the cellular Network started to flourish during the last years in which several different systems were developed; as a result we have first generation (1G), second generation (2G), third generation (3G) cellular networks and the trend is continuously increasing. The first generation (1G) was used from 1970-1980 and now is retired. In 1990 the second generation (2G) of Networks were launched such as Global System for Mobile communications (GSM), Personal Communications Service (PCS), and Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (IDEN) and so on. The second generation (2G) of networks replaced the (1G) and became very popular with digital processing, enabl ing wireless transmission of voice as well as data and have different Variety of new features such as a Push to Talk, Short Messaging service(SMS), caller ID, conference calling, voice mail, email messaging and so on.

Electronic Documentation in Health Sector Research Paper
Electronic Documentation in Health Sector - Research Paper Example In a study to investigate the barriers to adoption of a standard language in the nursing field, data were collected through surveys, which were administered to a random respondent group established by a computerized mechanism of the practitioners who practice within the ambulatory health systems in the US. The descriptive statistics was evaluated through SPSS through which the correlation indices to the factors under analysis were sought and later interpreted. The outcome of the analysis has revealed the perception of the interviewees that nursing care information is often omitted from the records mostly because of three reasons: no easy documentation method, a failure to reimburse the nursing documentation as well as little time to document. The basic tool to overcome the constraint was seen to be the adoption of electronic mechanisms of documentation, which equally relied on availability of technology and its adoption. Therefore, the relevance of the research study by Conrad and th e team to my capstone project is that it affirms the need to embrace technology in documentation of nursing practices for the ease and efficiency of retrieval of the health records (Conrad et al. 2011). Information technology has been seen to be a critical component in the modern day communication between practicing medical staff and the patients. Besides the necessity of the effective communication to bring about satisfaction to patients in the medical procedure, the lack of it results in great failures within the field. In a study to analyze the role of information technology and the assisted communication within the medical field Angst and colleagues adopted the mode of structure and process as well as outcome, to carry out the analysis. The research was informed by the limited literature that existed on the role of information technology when integrated in communication-based transactions within the medical field. It adopted a SPO framework (structure-process-outcome) to test te chnical as well as interpersonal care processes within the medical field. IT was found to serve in both interpersonal as well as technical processes in the medical field. This is because clinical IT affects the technical dimension while the administrative IT impacts the interpersonal patient care dimension. Measures of hospitals performance are often based on the technical competence as well as the patientââ¬â¢s satisfaction. The structure, according to this research, was found to imply not only the physical organizational structures, but also the incorporation of IT into the management practices. The research, therefore, served to affirm the necessity of health practitioners to embrace technological changes for the purpose of efficiencies in processes and practices (Angst et al, 2012). This study, therefore, has concluded that medical health managers should be aware that underutilization as well as the overutilization of IT in the field would be disastrous to the overall outcome of the institutions. Stored medical and clinical data have many uses among which are clinical care as well as purposes of research. Jensen, Jensen and Brunak (2012) sought to study the critical necessity of proper data storage for the clinical data to be used for research studies as well as for better clinical care. Phenotype information as well as patient information within this field stands to have a great significance though it is often little utilized. Information technology has greatly revolutionized the practices of capturing, storing as well as retrieval of information regarding medical and clini

Aspergers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Aspergers - Essay Example Even though traits and symptoms of Aspergerââ¬â¢s may improve over time, Aspergerââ¬â¢s is a lifelong condition. Sufferers of Aspergerââ¬â¢s can improve their social skills over a long period of time and treatment, but they will always have the disorder. Causes There is no specific known cause of Aspergerââ¬â¢s syndrome, though it is known that the organ affected the most is the brain. Since the disorder seems to run in families, where more than child is often diagnosed, scientists and doctors alike believe that the disorder is caused by something involving certain hereditary genes. It is also believed that changes in the structure or the development of the brain, as well as changes to specific genes, can be linked to someone developing the disorder. There is also the assumption that Aspergerââ¬â¢s syndrome can be brought on by other mental health disorders, like depression and bipolar disorder; this disorders are thought to be able to trigger the development of Asperg erââ¬â¢s. Contrary to popular belief, Aspergerââ¬â¢s is not caused by someone being deprived emotionally. Since many people with Aspergerââ¬â¢s appear rude towards others, given their inability to properly respond in public, people have come to the conclusion that Aspergerââ¬â¢s can develop due to bad parenting or bad experiences in the childhood. This is incorrect. Though there is very little known about how the disorder is caused, it is known for certain that Aspergerââ¬â¢s syndrome is a neurobiological disorder that can have negative effects on the lives of those diagnosed with the disorder if treatment is not sought. Symptoms The most common sign associated with Aspergerââ¬â¢s is the inability of the individual to properly acknowledge the existence of others, even if they are having direct contact with them. Someone who has been diagnosed with Aspergerââ¬â¢s syndrome tends to become involved in long, one-sided conversations without taking notice as to whethe r or not the other person is listening or attempting to change the subject. Their nonverbal communication is unusual, such as not making eye contact or displaying bizarre body posture, facial expressions, or poor coordination. An individual with Aspergerââ¬â¢s does not attempt to understand or sympathize with the feelings of others, and they have a hard time in understanding humor. Yet another symptom of a person with Aspergerââ¬â¢s is their intense, though severely narrowed, interest in only a few specific complex topics, which can lead to a level of near-obsession. An individual might be able to name all of the stars in the sky or speak of the patterns of music, or they might be able to draw detailed portraits or learn a song on piano simply by listening to it once. Though it is not entirely known as to why people who have Aspergerââ¬â¢s have these especially abilities, it is believed to be related to the fact that since the person is unable to be properly social and comm unicative with others, they channel that excess energy into a specific interest (Attwood 177). Treatment Options Since scientists and doctors are unable to find a definite cause for Aspergerââ¬â¢s syndrome, there is also no cure for the disorder. If someone is diagnosed with Aspergerââ¬â¢s as a child, they will still have Aspergerââ¬â¢s as an adult. However, as previously mentioned, individuals are able to improve their social skills through a variety of therapies, specialized interventions, and medications.
